Many of you may not know this, but I have a Japanese wife, and the visa application is absolute hell for first-time applicants. Many registrars and immigration departments have their own SOP and criteria to reject applicants. That is confusing, and it turns the application process into a never-ending stamp rally, with different information from each person.
In light of this, and not wanting anyone to suffer anymore, I have made an online guide to registering foreign spouses for marriage and applying for the LTSVP, spouse or dependant visa. In the spirit of Malaysia, I named it Borang Reject No More: a play on Manglish and local mutual understanding.
I am still developing it and adding new sections. If you are interested in helping and contributing, please share your experiences with government documents with me.
What’s on the guide so far
- A step-by-step journey for a Malaysian with a Japanese spouse, in five steps: documents in Japan, legalisation, registering the marriage at JPN, the first spouse visa (LTSVP), and the renewal with permission to work. Each step can be printed on A4.
- A forms library of 12 forms, including counter copies collected from Immigration.
- A checklist that builds your own document list from a few questions. Nothing you answer is stored or sent anywhere.
- A glossary of 14 terms and acronyms that come up at the counter.
- Search across all of it, and the whole guide in Japanese as well.
Parts of it are still marked as drafts while I check them. If something is wrong or out of date, the form and step pages have a link to report it, or you can email me at eugene.tmh@outlook.com.
